AKA squamous cell carcinoma with tricholemmal keratinization
Histologia
- Clear, polygonal appearance of the tumor cells, which are loaded with glycogen and often have a cylindrical, palisade-like appearance at the periphery, similar to the outermost cells of the follicular sheath (tricholemm)
- Non-epidermoid keratinization is reminiscent of the isthmic segment of the hair follicle
- Cytologic signs of high malignancy
Prognosis
- Rarely recur or metastasize after radical excision
