Familial lipomatosis

  • Autosomal dominant
 
Associations
  • Diabetes
 
Clinical presentation
  • Numerous small lipomas measuring 2-5cm that develop under the skin in the middle third of the body, especially on the forearms, the periphery of the trunk and the upper thighs
  • They can be painful when compressed against a hard surface or if they histologically contain a vascular and smooth muscle component (angiomiolipomas)
 
Treatment
  • Can be easily removed under local anesthesia
  • Can be enucleated through a dermo-epidermal incision made with a scalpel
  • However → they are not suitable for liposuction
