Apresentação clínica
- Annular erythema develops at the site of a Borrelia infected tick bite
- Lesion expands centrifugally to >6cm
- “Bull’s eye” appearance
- untreated - resolves w/in 6 weeks
- The initial cutaneous manifestation of Lyme disease - seen in 50-75% of patients
- Multiple, smaller secondary lesions can occur as a result of spirochetemia or lymphatic spread
- Other systemic manifestations of Lyme
- Fatigue, headache, arthralgias, myalgias, fever, LAD, conjunctivitis, hepatitis
Pathology
- Nonspecific
- Similar to deep gyrate erythema with plasma cells & eosinophils
- Warthin-Starry stain helps to identify spirochete
