Erythema Migrans

  • Erythema chronicum migrans

Apresentação clínica
  • Annular erythema develops at the site of a Borrelia infected tick bite
  • Lesion expands centrifugally to >6cm
    • “Bull’s eye” appearance
    • untreated - resolves w/in 6 weeks
  • The initial cutaneous manifestation of Lyme disease - seen in 50-75% of patients
  • Multiple, smaller secondary lesions can occur as a result of spirochetemia or lymphatic spread
  • Other systemic manifestations of Lyme
    • Fatigue, headache, arthralgias, myalgias, fever, LAD, conjunctivitis, hepatitis
 
Pathology
  • Nonspecific
  • Similar to deep gyrate erythema with plasma cells & eosinophils
  • Warthin-Starry stain helps to identify spirochete
