Tinea Barbae (not sycosis barbae)

  • Etiologia
    • Typically zoophilic: T. mentagrophytes var. T. verrucosum
    • Atropophilic: T. rubrum
    • Geophilic: N. gypseum
  • Epidemiologia
    • Farmers
  • Apresentação clínica
    • Unilateral neck/face
    • Types:
      • Deep nodular suppurative
      • Superficial crusted plaques with folliculitis
    • May cause kerion also (like tinea capitis)
      • Abscess caused by fungal infection
        • Regional lymphadenopathy
        • Fevers and malaise
        • Dermatophytid reaction may be present
          • Caused by immune resposnse to a dermatophyte infection
  • DDx
    • Foliculitis: in tinea there is alopecia (because fungus likes keratin in hair) and in folliculitis there is not)
  • Tratamento
    • O organismo pode ter penetração perifolicular por isso tem que ser tratamento oral
